I must tell you...

*sigh* again.

this story has so totally capture my heart that i am in raptures for it. i have watched it almost 5 times this week, secretly bought the dvd, confessed to Jaku about buying it 3 days later with a blush, feeling like a school kid doing something naughty. i got the sound track, and the book yesterday, re-read the book (i have read it in November last year) and resolved to watching a part of the dvd last night late. Yes, you can say i am smitten with it. never have i seen a more incredible, heartfelt, and true copy of a book translated to film. the roles of Elizabeth and Darcy was portrayed so life like that i think Jane Austen would smile, should she know. Darcy is one of the most handsome men i have ever seen on the big screen, despite the arrogance and pride that he portray. the way he portrayed his love for Elizabeth from the first instant they met was carried right through the movie with his gaze that was never averted from her. his long, pondering, dark perusal of her left the viewer with no uncertainty of his ardent feelings, however his manner might try to contradict it.

the only part i felt was neglected was the time span. from the beginning to the end of the story, a year has passed. much of the dialogue was written out of the book in the exact manner and especially the good and witty and heartfelt words that was spoken on the big screen was written by ms Austen herself. i have always been a regency devotee and this portrayal is immaculate. Darcy is the very object of the romantic artist's portrait and the similarities in it to the romantic period is astounding. what i also loved was the transition that happened in Elizabeth form a gigglely girl to a woman that, for the first time, experienced a deep sense of love and how (like her father said to her about her sister) a woman needs to be crossed in love sometimes, for it sets her above her companions. i loved how her love for this man unfolded with first such a startling realization and then such a tenderness. and i loved the way that he declared his love for her in the second last scene. never have there been a more passionate and heartfelt confession. and the very last scene is totally absolutely beautiful. Mrs. Darcy...

the one thing that i can strongly recommend is to watch it at least 2 times. for only the second time did i see the very thin thread of symbolism that is woven through this classic story.

*sigh*

yes, i can say with all certainty that this is my favourite film of all time.

love and a kiss...wfxxx

Oh, we saw this one in the theater, and I loved it. Have you ever seen the long one with Colin Firth? It is like 5 hours long, but it is so good, too.

I may have to add this version to my Jane Austen collection.
