Journaling 101...

hee-hee. Just kidding. I must confess that I love to write. I always have. so, to write on my pages is like breathing to me. Many times the type becomes texture and more part of the design than the "journaling" as such. But it carries meaning and that to me is most important. The easiest for me is to write a letter. I always write letters while I journal. When I worked on my HOF entries, I did the journaling before hand and then wrote it on my pages mainly because of spelling and sentence construction. (REMEMBER that english is my SECOND language!!! I still "is" and "are" in the wrong places!!) But for all the other pages I just write out of my heart. I would draw pencil lines every time because sometimes the journaling is at an angle and I love it when everything is evenly spaced. Oh, I make spelling errors and grammar boo-boos but I don't care. One day my girls are going to read it and I promise you they are not going to laugh at my errors, but rather cry at my sentiment! I write with a Steadtler pigment permanent pen any one of them 0.1 - 0.5 (depending of how I want it to look) I also love my Muji pens. My brother-in-law got me some in London.

The thing about journaling is this: When your mom dies and 10 years later you discover something that she wrote... you will cry when you see her handwriting. It will NOT matter to you that she scribbled and did not have and architect's hand. You will cry because she loved you enough to put her hand to paper and tell you something. About how she loved you, about YOU and what YOU did, about her life and her beliefs and her loves. And that letter will be among your most cherished possessions. THAT is what I want to give my children. And that I will never stop doing.

Till tomorrow...

Amen! I still get sentimental over my grandfather's handwriting and he just included names/dates/places in his scrapbooks; nothing too personal. But, still!

Thx my friend - I have never been good at letter writing (phones have always been around since I have). I guess the option of you writing my journaling won't work then, 'cos you not know what i need to say....I'll try your advice though and hopefully get it right. Love and miss ya tons and tons

I agree! Handwriting is where it's at! My grandma before she died hand wrote a book to each of her children full of hymns and songs and creeds about what she believed. It's wonderful to hold in my hands and have something she touched even though she's been gone such a long time. Have a wonderful day Wilna! Kim

That's what I'm beginning to learn too; also it's often just easier to pick up a pen and write rather than have to decide which of the 5 million fonts I own to use

What a wonderful sentiment Wilna! Your unique journaling style has become one of your trademarks & truly sets your work apart. Of course having gorgeous handwriting doesn't hurt either - your girls are blessed indeed :o)

I also {heart} my Muji pens. In fact I LOVE anything "Muji". Apart from their divine stationery, they also have the coolest perspex storage stuff - perfect for tiny scrap treasures! Every time DH goes to London he get a Muji shopping list from me ;o)

Happy Day!

What you said that about when your mom dies and 10 years later you discover something....

That's exactly what I meant on my comment in the previous post! A couple weeks ago, I found the wedding card my dad gave me when I married my husband. I had forgotten all about it. In the card, he handwrote a letter to me about beginning a new life together with my husband. It made me bawl. It is a priceless treasure to me, but especially now that he's gone. I will scan it in and post it to my blog for all to see.
